Hello Gilpin Families!
We are quickly approaching the end of the first semester and our holiday break. I want to thank all students, parents, and staff members for a wonderful first half of the school year. We introduced our AstroEagles program this year and students have done a wonderful job working together and supporting each other across grade levels. We had our first ever student council election with over 130 students voting for each position. I have enjoyed seeing students engaged in class, working hard, and encouraging their classmates. I am excited to see what the second semester brings and I wish everyone in our amazing Gilpin community a Happy Holidays!
Sincerely, Patrick Linnehan |
- Friendly reminder about the Parent Drop-off and Pick-Up policy before and after school. The location by the sidewalk is intended only for dropping off or picking up your child. Drivers must remain in their cars if they intend to use this location. If you need to get out of your car, please park your car in an available parking spot. If parents leave their car unattended in the drop-off/pick-up area, it creates a lot of unnecessary traffic, making it difficult for parents and students to navigate the parking lot.
- The last day of first semester is Thursday, December 18th and it is a half day! School will be ending at 1:00 P.M.

Student-Led Secret Santa Student council has proposed a secret santa for students with with many classes participating. Student council members will place the names of each student in a homeroom class into a hat. Students will then choose a name out of the hat (making sure they don't pick their own!) They will have until December 18th to create a gift for that student to be revealed during the secret santa celebration! All gifts must be HOMEMADE! Students can use materials they find at the school or materials from home. We are excited to see what students create to celebrate each other! |
The November AstroEagles Mission "Kindness Makes the World Go Round" focused on our planet, Earth! Students worked their AstroEagles teams to each think about one person they have witnessed perform a kind act either towards themselves or someone else. After deciding on a person and a kind act, the students each completed a Kindness Comet, drawing the person in the head of the comet, and detailing the kind act in the tail of the comet. Afterwards, all comets were displayed on the wall of the MPR for all to see, shouting out all the kindness happening in our school everyday! |
For our December AstroEagles Mission, we are traveling to Mars! The focus for the month will be on developing a growth mindset towards our learning. This encourages students to take risks, persevere through difficult challenges, and not feel defeated if they make a mistake. During the mission, students will decorate stars with positive messages about overcoming challenges. The stars will all be placed together to create a "Growth Galaxy" and will be displayed on the walls of the MPR for all to see! |
Congratulations to Jacob Motchan for being selected the GCES December Student of the Month! The November AstroEagles mission focused on kindness. Jacob was nominated by his classroom teacher and teaching assistant who said of him, "Jacob embodies November's theme of Kindness. When a classmate is sad he is quick to check on them, ask them what they need, and do his best to cheer them up." Congratulations Jacob and thank you for modeling kindness to your classmates! |

The highschool interact club worked with elementary students to create ornaments to deliver to Children's Hospital! To create the ornaments, students used pencil sharpeners and crayons to create a pile of crayon shavings. The shavings were then placed into clear ornaments and melted together using a hair dryer. The students created beautiful designs using several different colors! |
